It was a gorgeous day to kick start the 2015 season for Blazers. As the last of the 11 players walked into the Ortega with a bottle of DayQuil and Claritin tablets at 9:20, stage was all set for the match to begin. But wait, something that didn’t look right… yours beloved Chetan Bhai had happily set extra long boundary for the side he was going to bowl from and the the rest for the field… well was no concern to him 🙂
Anyway as the team warmed up and Jimmy all set to bat first with 3 bats, our captain lost the toss and we were put to field. Eka started things off for Blazers, and was right on the money starting with 2 in swinging balls down the keg side. Finally the 3rd ball seemed to surprise everyone and took the top of off-stump. It was a good start but Jaguars were not going to be easily dismissed. Chetan Bhai, Eka, Jwal and Arun kept things tight. Special note to Arun who pretty much plugged the runs with figures of (5-2-3-1). Jaguars finished first session with 53/2 in 15 overs. The concentration in the Blazers camp was a little low in the second session that led to a few dropped chances. AJ was dropped on 18 and he went on to score 70 and was the only person in the Jaguar camp who looked really dangerous. Sparshith bowled well to keep the scoring rate contained, but Jaguars were looking good at 165/5 after 37 overs and were aiming well over 220. Chetan Bhai was brought back into the attach and he immediately got things under control with double wicket over of AJ and Monty. Blazers did really well to contain Jaguars who finally were all out for 199 at the 41 overs.
Chasing 200 is always a uphill battle at Ortega, but Blazers camp was very confident with the batting line up. Jimmy and Natty took the field to start things off. Well… things didn’t start the way we expected. Jimmy saw him self edging the ball that got a awkward bounce and was walking back in the first over. Natty seemed to be really cool at the crease and he along with Parth took on the bowling. Both of them played some glorious drives over cover and dispatched the bad balls. Things seemed to stabilize when Parth edged one to keeper and immediately Natty drove a full toss ball to short cover. Sparshith fell shortly after and Blazers were 72/4 at around 20 Over mark. Tejas and Nachi started taking things slow and were looking to build a partnership. Both of them showed amazing temperament and built on a partnership of 60 runs. Just when things seemed to be going Blazers way, Nachi ended up running himself out for a misjudged run. Arun and Tejas added on 25 runs to take Blazers closer. Blazers needed 41 runs from 27 balls when Eka joined the party. Eka scored a quick fire 14* of 6 balls(1×6, 1×4) while Tejas was red hot on the other side finishing things off with 59* of lets say xx balls(7×4) while scoring the last 30 of just 15 balls.
Blazers had a strong finish and won by 4 wickets with 2 overs to spare proving that we are a champion team. Everyone of the 11 chipped in for the win and a true team performance.
