Entourage: 134/7 in 20 overs (Narsi 54*, Akhter Khan 4-0-24-3)
California Cover Drive XI: 135/1 in 18.1 overs by 9 wickets (Tenzing 59*, Satbir 40*)
Our day started with game starting close to noon instead of the listed time of 10:30 AM by the league. The ground wasn’t in the playing condition when our squad arrived and saw California cover drive XI running around to cut the grass for the ground to become somewhat playable. Great start to the day for people assuming it was going to be a T20 game.
Captain Sohail with his calm demeanor walked to the middle of the pitch, won the toss and elected to bat first and finally our day was about to begin.
Much to the dismay of Entourage players; their openers were done in within the 1st over with only 1 run on the board. Sanket fell to a rising delivery that took his thumb nail along with it to the keeper and Priyankar fell to a pathetic LBW decision on a ball that bounced as high as half a foot above the stumps when it came in contact with Priyankar.
Neeraj and Mayank decided to take on the innings from there and settle down; however Mayank’s middle stump got uprooted by the bowler who swung the ball in after he had just gotten done hitting two lusty blows to the fence while Neeraj fell to a run out. Scoreboard read 15/4 in 2 overs.
Savior and face saver of the day, Narsi walked to the middle to help Entourage and get out of the mess they were in. He was lucky to get a life on the very first ball, but oh well; that’s Cricket for ya! He built his innings just like an experienced player he is and made the opposition pay. Nabeel and Sohail helped Narsi out in the middle while he was grinding out his well deserved 54* with their cameo of 20 odd runs a piece while Ahsan scored 11* to help finish the innings which featured Sohail’s towering sixes over the bowler’s head, Nabeel’s fancy batting and Ahsan’s quiet play on the ground and rotating strike. Entourage ended up with a competitive score of 134/7 on the board.
Entourage’s Bowling & Fielding:
There isn’t much to say here mainly because while bowlers were doing their part and bowling according to the game plan; we lacked energy and focus in the ground. CCD’s players were having a hard time to connect to Sohail’s & Nabeel’s pace for the 1st 5 odd overs. Whenever they did manage to connect; there were barely any runs and most of their runs came in extras if anything at all. Support from fielders wasn’t proper or adequate on the ground to help win the game. Singles turned into twos, and on numerous occasions those singles turned into boundaries and the game started to slip away from the team. 😦
Positives: A young bunch of folks in the team, and have potential to put some wins together provided the right sort of guidance and set of players game to game — week to week basis
Negatives: No athleticism.
A couple words of wisdom: Game isn’t just about showing up to the ground, bat and go home. You need to field as well. W or L is a different matter.
