Captain Calm and Co win a thriller in the last over

Report by Priyankar

Summary: T20 game on 6/14

Entourage 137/5 (Ranjan 48, Saideep 47)

Fremont Warriors: 135/8 (Narsi 2 wkts and good economy)

MOM : Ranjan for his brilliant 48

MVP : Narsi and Saideep

The blue clear sky lead to a beautiful of good cricket and being our home game, Entourage assembled on time to set up the field, did some warm ups and took some catches. Ahsan shouldered the captaincy role due to a last minute non availability of Sohail and Baba was promoted as the deputy. The captain won the toss and elected to bat.

Entourage Batting:

Jag & Priyankar opened but the stand did not lost lang as Jag fell early to a catch in the second over with the score at 1. Baba came to the crease and the score was moving at a slow pace. Priyankar caressed a boundary but fell the very next ball trying to repeat the same in the 4th over. Narsi walked to the crease and then saw Baba edge to the keeper after being set. Rajan returning to play after a 2 year long break was doing the right thing by rotating the strike with Narsi. With the run rate not climbing Narsi went for a shot over midwicket only to find the fielder who took an excellent catch. At this point Entourage were 50/4 in 10 overs. Saideep and Ranjan kept the score board ticking by taking single and putting the bad balls away. Rajan showed his class by powering a majestic six over long on and pushing the score card forward with Saideep who played some good shots in point and cover region and both were not ready to give away their wicket. Ranjan fell in the last over of the innings at 48 and Saideep finished at 47 with the total score at 137/5

Entourage Bowling:

Mohammad opened the bowling with a good first over and made an immediate impact by taking a wicket. Then in Narsi’s first over the batsmen had no clue on how to play him and he claimed 2 wickets in the same over. Narsi should have had another wicket in his next over with the leg umpire not giving a clear stumping with the batsman’s leg on the line. Ahsan bought himself into the attack along with Jag and Hari Srinivas. The partnership kept building till Jag got the break through with a slower ball. Hari S and Jag completed their 4 over spell on the trot and also chocked the flow of runs, but were unfortunate not claiming any wickets as we had regular drop catches. With the required equation blaring at 42 off 5, Ahsan brought back Narsi & Mohammad who made sure no easy runs were given and our fielders backed the bowlers in the outfield. Narsi with his experience and understanding of the game taught us how to chock the flow of runs and was fielding at long on at one end and long off at the other and giving us the much needed energy. Wickets for the opponents kept falling under pressure to increase the run rate and finally with 1 over to go the equation read 8 runs needed. Captain Calm, Ahsan took the responsibility with confidence and kept the ball outside off. Narsi again helped us with the field by making sure the right fielders were at the right places. With 4 needed of 1 ball, all the batsman could do was take a single giving Entourge a close win.

Takes out of the game : Ranjan and Saideep batting

Improvements : Batsman after being set should put value on their wicket and Catching (this has and will always be an issue unless fielding and catching practices are done regularly)
