Blazers: 314 for 8 (Jimmy 80, Natty 68, Tejas 63, Shashank 3 wickets, Nikhil 2 wickets)
Spartans: 150 for 9 (Abhishek 62, Sohan 18, Chetan 3 wickets, Sparshith & Tejas 2 wickets)
After a couple of losses, Blazers were looking for a big win to boost their net run rate and it looked like the day was tailor made for the same result. Moderate breeze, perfect temperature and fast outfield… what else can you ask for. Captain Tejas went in for the toss and after winning chose to bat with no hesitation.
Blazers started the innings… well what can be said. Jimmy like his usual self, started middling the ball in the first over with a huge hit over long off. Natty and Jimmy showed positive intent early on and were aggressive all through their innings. Both batted sensibly by respecting the good balls and blasting the hell out of the loose balls. They scored freely with a healthy run rate of 7 r.p.o. At the first break, Blazers stood tall at 110 for no loss. Spartans pulled the run rate back in the second session by introducing spin from young Shashank and Sohan. Natty soon fell after the 1st break for a well made 68. Jimmy was unfortunate to miss out on a century and was run out on 80 due to a horrible decision by the leg umpire. Tejas joined the party and was keen on getting blazers past 300.In the mean time Parth(12), Sparshith(30) and Nachi(14) chipped in and had descent partnerships with Tejas and the score was 268/5 in 40 overs. Rajiv(24) then joined Tejas(63) and added 40 plus run partnership to take the score to 314/8.
After munching on delicious chaat cafe baingan bartha and aloo, players took the field for second innings. Spartans started slow and showed no intention of chasing down 300. Their only goal was to play out 45 overs. Arun started the proceedings for Blazers and was right on the money from ball one. He bowled superbly and was unfortunate to get any wickets. Chetan on the other hand drew first blood by getting Viraj out at point. A shout out to Sohan(18 of 75 balls) and Abhishek(62 of 88 balls) who batted superbly. They were the highlight of Spartans batting. The temperament they showed was just unbelievable. We all have a lot to learn from the youngsters. Thanks to their efforts and our pathetic fielding Spartans batted out 45 overs and ended up with a score of 150/9 (Chetan 3 wickets, Sparshith & Tejas 2 wickets each, Deepak and Nachi 1 wicket each). Venky did a good job behind the stumps with 1 catch and 1 stumping.
Blazers did not show any energy while fielding. Dropped catches and misfielding clearly showed that we were either over confident or just not interested in taking up the challenge to get all 10 wickets of the opposition.
Lets make it a point to change this attitude and win the remaining 2 games this season!!!
